Market Meats is one of my favourite butcher shops. I usually stop by at least once or twice per week to purchase something for the grill although I seem to be visiting more often since the weather has been so nice. The staff is extremely helpful and they always offer up some great choices. Here are a few of my favourites:
Free Range Rotisserie Chicken ñ tender and juicy, an easy pick up meal for the end of the day. $10 each. Call ahead for these fully cooked as they go fast! PEI Blue Ribbon Striploin Steak ñ perfect for the grill. $26.99/lb, Naturally Raised PEI NY Steaks ñ fully grass and potato fed, these steaks are guaranteed to be super buttery and tender $26.99/lb.
Regardless of what meat I do choose I will always pick up a couple of the Bengal Masala Lamb Popsicles $33.99/lb for myself. These are rubbed down with their specialty Bengal Masala Rub. My wife loves the Free Range Tandori Marinated Chicken Breast. Full of flavour and great on the grill.
If you are looking for great BBQ rubs they sell a brand called “rub with love”. These are addictive. Try the chicken and the pork, $9.99.
We are currently planning our annual trip to the Okanagan so we decided to stop into the Okanagan Estate Wine Shop to see what was new. This wine shop is located in Kitsilano, near 4th and Alma. They sell local BC wines with everything at winery direct prices and they often have great sales. They also do wine tastings from 2-6 on weekends so this is a perfect time to try some BC wines. I decided to try the Open Cab2Merlot ñ a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It has a red berry fruit aroma and flavourful finish.
It is an affordable red that went perfectly with our grilled meats that we bought from Market Meats.
